Sweat

I’ve seen the future
            And it’s gone.
Imagine, no more Lennon
            And his song.
All swept away by the hand of God.

Sweat.

Pyramids dust
            Like the pride of men.
History completed
            With a capital End.
No steel towers or houses of sod.

Sweat.

Out on the plain where the buzzards soar
Came the end of rumors and the end of war
With bodies stacked as high as horse’s thighs.
Jackals drink the blood; birds peck the eyes
And no one marching sings glory anymore.

Sweat.

I’ve seen the future
            When the sky rolled up,
The mountains leveled
            And the sea deeps shook.
Islands drowned by the hand of God

Sweat.

Politicians gone silent
            In midst of addresses.
No more celebrity or
Wealth that impresses.
Smitten away by the Living Word.

Sweat.

But the present’s still here though God knows why,
Filled with its greed, infidelity and lies.
Served by the gluttons at the feasts of man.
Better to feed one’s soul on the diet of the Lamb
Than the stews of sin and temptation pies.

Sweat

I’ve seen three heavens,
The highest is blessed.
I’ve seen three hells,
Shoal, Tartarus and Abyss
Somewhere you’ll check in and you won’t check out.

Sweat

You can march to the beat
            Of the Devil’s drum,
Or spit in his eye
And give him the thumb.
Then the seraphim will respond in celestial shout,

“No sweat.”
