Days Just After Ten Years Past

DAYS JUST AFTER TEN YEARS PAST
written 9/11/2011

Strange was the air then that fall.
You’d hear an airplane drone,
Breaking the morning silent.
You’d look up and quiver some
Then bow your head in
Silent mourning.

Each week on Sunday the Monkey Man gives a challenge to write a poem in only 160 characters. Like writing a tweet – it takes some doing to convey thought in so few words. Come join the fun!

I have to remind myself that the world that came into being that day is the only one my children remember.

So true. Then again, I remember the empty skies for what seemed like ages afterward as all flights were canceled post 9/11. See that first plane back in the sky later was almost a relief. Thanks for playing along with the Sunday 160, Larry.

This really captures that all too familiar feeling you get when you look up in the sky and remember that everything is different.

So many things resonated with a different meaning after that day. I remember it in my teaching especially.
