Crack Up

There is a chair for the boy over there
That has been empty over a season.
I don’t mean to appear unsympathetic,
But life is like that,
Get over it.

You’re twenty-seven and love’s been unkind.
At twenty-seven I’d lost my third child.
Did I seek a pyre for self-immolation?
No, life is like that,
Get over it.

There are things in ev’ry life hard to bear.
Some for good cause and some for no reason.
I don’t mean to appear so apathetic
But life is like that;
Get over it.

Look in the mirror. Don’t make yourself blind
Gulping Prozac to keep emotions mild.
I don’t mean to demean your situation
But life is like that;
Get over it.
